KNITTING MACHINE TRAINING PERIOD
Share
I got my first knitting machine in high school and took lessons to learn how to use it. I was so excited to make my own clothes, but at the time, I found it easier to bring my ideas to life with a sewing machine. So that's the direction I followed.
Sometimes I wonder if things might have turned out differently if I'd had the skills to make what I wanted with a knitting machine. Maybe I would have fallen in love with the process and become a knitwear designer instead.
BLABLAHOSPITAL wasn't born out of a carefully planned concept or business strategy. It grew naturally as I kept making the things I wanted to make. As my creativity developed, the brand evolved with it.
There was a time when I started to feel that simply making clothes wasn't enough anymore. I wasn't following a grand plan or trying to take the brand in a particular direction. I was just following my instincts, making things, and seeing where they would take me.
Eventually, I found myself returning to my handmade roots, this time through machine knitting.
There's something incredibly exciting about creating something from a single, fine thread. When I finally completed my first BLABLA knit piece, I felt like I'd finally made it this far.
These pieces take time to make. But I've never wanted to give up on an idea simply because it takes too long.
I've always wanted to keep BLABLAHOSPITAL independent and true to its punk spirit. To make this knitwear collections possible, I put my usual sewing work on hold and spent that time learning machine knitting once again.
I called this period my knitting machine training period.
I spent my days making basic socks, learning the fundamentals of machine knitting and figuring out how to translate my abstract ideas into knitted pieces.
It took a long time to get to this point, but I'm finally creating the original knitwear I've always wanted to make.
